Charlie flew up from London to Newcastle so we were a few minutes late and missed the first goal. Our first missed minutes but . . .
Dave Scott with us (for tomorrow''s match) and he went off walking while we watched.
Good weather - bright sunshine but very cold. The sun in our eyes for a fifteen minutes and then a cloud passed over and the temperature felt like it had fallen 15 degrees.
Nice neat little ground with good stands and a vociferous support (although we couldn''t understand most of what they were saying). The girl next to us had the most amazing hairy mole on her top lip - like a permed spider - nasty. Oh and the ''most excellent'' scoreboard actually told you what half was playing - just in case you got distracted.
I came up with the ''brilliant'' catch-phrase wag yer flag - Liner!!
Good pie and pint at half time and nice chat with local supporter (half a flask of coffee and half a flask of Glennfiddich).
Late in half 2 (see above) it started snowing. I told Charlie they were seagull feathers.
Then in the car and off to Newcastle (Gateshead) Hilton for a great night out including the diabolical theft of a black rubber pig.
