Up at 5.50, away at 6.25 and caught 6.47 from B Sth to Vic, tube to Euston and 7.35 to Manchester Piccadilly, arr 9.45. Tram to square then replacement bus to Salford Quays, and visit to The Lowry. Went to Lowry gallery, and info also there about new Lowry film starring Tim Spall. Bus back to town passing an old building with painted sign, ''DOT MOTOR CYCLES''. Walked to Studehill bus station to check where bus 98 would leave from, then walked to National Football museum. £8 admission,3/4 levels and rather haphazardly set out to my mind. Wandered round taking the odd photo. Then to nearby Victoria station to pick up a snack from Greggs to have at half time.
A few other fans on the bus so got off where they did and followed them to the ground. Unfortunately I didn''t realise seats had to be booked in advance, so I had to stand, only £5 admission, prog £3.
Stadium rebuild since promotion, in lego style metal terracing, which can be expanded with additional sections should it be necessary in future seasons. Port Vale sold out the away end with 1,700. Not bad game but typically lower league hustle and bustle. Vale had a good chance after 2 mins, but 0-0 HT. Vale scored at there end on 81mins. I left at 16.45 anxious to catch the bus back before the crowds left and I was farthest from the stop 10 mins away up hill. But all well and in town in plenty of time for the 17.55 (390001) back to Euston. 7 late back at 20.12, managed to catch the 20.25 from Vic, and home at 21.05.
Eve had phoned me a couple of times, and I her. Angela had kept her company in the afternoon.
