Disappointing performance: very disappointing result. Pompey were awful in possession in the first hour, just lofting balls forward to Marquis who didn''t get on the end of anything, as in not once did he get it and use it well. Cov passed the ball better than we did but they didn''t create any clear chances. Pompey defended well, and without drama. Cov had a couple of decent shots from outside the box but that was all. The substitutions changed Pompey''s game completely around 62 minutes. Harness was better than Williams, and Harrison was miles better than Marquis, but then so am I. One great move saw a chance at the near post, Pompey''s first in the game on 66 minutes. Good reflex save kept it out. Pompey had two more chances in the box, but none of them were sitters. Nevertheless Pompey were the better side for last half hour. Cov got what I think was their first proper chance in the box on 85 minutes and it was the best chance of the game and they took it. 0-0 would have been a fair reflection of the game, as neither side really deserved to win. Coventry''s support was pitiful. They only occupied one stand. One stand!!! Pompey fans were numerous and very vocal as usual. A long way for them to come to see a performance like that. Marks out Ten: Bass 6 Had his pipe and slippers out Bolton 5 Burgess 9 magnificent Raggett 5 wobbly (again), and played their goalscorer onside Seddon 5 Naylor 5 never a midfielder. Drop Raggett and but Naylor in the back four Close 6 patchy. Did some good things but also gave the ball away too much Williams 5 ran around a lot and...then...ran around a bit more McGeehan 4 his one contribution: lofting hopeful undirected lobs over the Cov defence (to absolutely no effect) Curtis 6 no service, but also fell over the ball a couple of times. One good goal attempt deflected away Marquis 2 (and that is generous) dire doesn''t cover it Harness 6 lively Harrison 7 lively and kept the Cov defenders on their toes. Our main (sorry only) attacking threat in this game.
