| Opened in 1896, this was initially the home ground of Bedminster FC, who merged with Bristol City in 1900. However, it was not until 1904 that the amalgamated club finally moved from St John’s Lane to the much larger Ashton Gate.
In the early years there were two stands, Nos 1 and 2, on each side of the pitch and, in the 1920s, a covered terrace was installed at the Winterstoke Road end of the ground. No.1 Stand was destroyed during WWII and ultimately replaced by a new grandstand in the 1950s whilst on the opposite side, the Harry Dolman Stand, with the roof suspended from a cross girder, was completed in 1970. By the end of season 2001/2 a 21,479 capacity all-seater stadium had been created with the construction of a new grandstand, on the site of the old one, and new stands at each end of the ground surrounding the 120 x 75 yards sized pitch. |

| If driving to ground: Exit the M5 at junction 15 merge onto the the M4 to junction 19, exit toward A4174/Ring Road and then onto the M32 then continue on till you get to Cabot Circus take a left into Temple Way then at the main roundabout take the second exit into Temple Gate/ A4 and at the next roundabout take the third exit into Clarence Road and pass the Peugeot Garage then at the T Junction take a left and after crossing the bridge take the right exit and follow the signs for the A370 and after the lights take a left into Coronation Road.
Then after a mile take the first left after the the cafe at the pedestrian crossing into Green Bush Lane then at the bottom of the road at the T Junction take a left into North Road and follow the road round as there is little parking at the ground, I take the third left into Bath Street and park at the flats and then walk it to the ground.
The Alternative route is to Leave the M5 at Junction 18 and travel along the Portway (A4) following signs for the Bristol Airport/Taunton (A38). As you go over the swing bridge (Brunel Way), branch left into Winterstoke Road, and you will see the ground on your left behind the houses and at the roundabout take the first exit up to the ground.

| If using Public Transport: Take the train to Bristol Temple Meads Rail Station is at least 2.4 miles from the ground there is also Parson Street 1 mile near the ground an there is a train every hour from Bristol Parkway. If you arrive at Temple meads around 1.45 pm wait ten minutes at get the train to Parson Street it’s a four minute train journey
From Temple Meads main entrance walk over to the bus stop and take the First Bus 57 to Rupert Street, Broadmead and then walk over to the bus station bay 18 and take the Somerset and Avon 357 to Winterstoke Road Bower Ashton and its two minutes to the ground or the ABus. It runs from approximately one hour before kick-off and calls at Temple Gate, Temple Way, Haymarket, St Augustine's Parade, and Hotwell Road. Service 'A' costs Ł1.
From Parson Street turn left walk down to the lights then take a left into Bedminster Down Road then take first right at CSW onto Winterstoke Road (A302) walk down the hill past the cinema and then a garage go through two roundabouts and at the third turn right into Wedlock Road take a left just past KFC will get you to the ground.
If walking its 36 minutes walk starting at Temple Mead station walk up Clock Tower Yard then right into Temple Gate the after 100 yards turn right into Redcliff Mead Lane and straight on into Prewitt Street and at the end of the road turn left into Redcliff Hill and at the Junction walk at the Lights over the bridge across over the Avon into Coronation Street and keep on Coronation Street for about just over a mile with the Avon river on you right hand side it’s a beautiful walk on a sunny day, and on to Ashton Road when you get to the tree lined park the ground is up the lane behind the houses.
