GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"

Hallifield FC moved here in 1897 and changed its name to Macclesfield in 1904. In 1906 a covered seated main stand was constructed on the east side and, about this time, a long narrow roof erected on the west side. The club record attendance of 9,003 was established at the Cheshire Senior Cup 1st Round tie v. Winsford Athletic (2-1) on February 4th, 1948.

The main stand was replaced in 1960 by a short cantilever roofed 650 seat structure and by the time that Chester City first used the ground for Football League fixtures in 1990 there was uncovered terracing at each end and a short cover, subsequently extended, over the terracing on the west side.
Further improvements saw the construction of an all-seat stand at the south end and a temporary all-seat stand with a canvas roof was provided on the west side of the ground following Macclesfield Town FC’s entry into the Football League and subsequent promotion to the Second Division in 1998. This temporary structure was removed in 2000 and a new 1,743 seat stand built in its place. The capacity at the start of the 2004/5 season was 6,307 with 2,561 seats and the pitch size 109 x 72 yards.
