GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"

The ground was on the west side of Newcastle Road, north of Crozier Street, and Sunderland FC moved here in 1886. A 1,000 seat grandstand was built on the north side of the pitch and terracing eventually installed around the other three sides. There were no other major improvements made before the club moved to Roker Park in 1898, the site being subsequently used for Netherburn Road and housing.
