GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"

Constructed on the site of Foleshill Gasworks, the 32,500 seat continuously cantilever roofed stadium was completed by Coventry County Council in 2005 and leased to Coventry City FC.

The demolition of the gas holders on the morning of September 22nd, 2002 to clear the site may have caused an earthquake that took place at 00.54hrs on the following day. This, the fourth biggest recorded in the UK, measured 4.8 on the Richter Scale was centred at Dudley and felt within a radius of some 120 miles. Originally to be known as the Jaguar Arena, the Ford Motor Co withdrew their sponsorship and Jaguar name from the project on December 16th, 2004 but this was subsequently replaced by Ricoh on April 26th, 2005.
The record gate of 30,919 was set at the European Under-21 Championship Play Off, 1st Leg match England v. Germany (1-0) on October 6th, 2006. The pitch size was 114 x 74 yards.

If driving to ground: Leave the M6 at Junction 3 and then take the A444 towards the city centre. You'll find the stadium on the left after about a mile. Parking at the stadium is mostly for permit holders, although the Club do sell on the day spaces in Car Park C at Ł10 per car, although it is best to book a space in advance. Blue badge holders can also park at the stadium itself but again at a cost of Ł10. The Club are also utilising a number of car parks within walking distance of the stadium, in such places as factory units and local schools, costs of these official car parks varies but are around Ł2.50-Ł5 per vehicle.

If using Public Transport: Coventry train station is 45 mins from the stadium. There is a shuttle bus that operates from the bus station to stadium complex. It departs every 10 minutes on match days. Local buses depart Gosford Street from the Rail Station and it’s a 13 minute walk. Come of the station and walk onto Park Road then walk up to the end through the underpass you will come into Little Park street this leads you to Gosford Street where you take a right and the bus stops in front of you Gosford Street, Stop LE get the 3A, 57 to Hen Lane, opposite, Lauderdale Avenue, Rowley's Green then its two minutes to the ground. if you’re getting the bus back don’t take the shuttle bus it’s a scramble to get on the buses just return to Hen Lane at the roundabout and get the bus back to the Station. (Mind to take a return it’s cheaper) You can also walk to the ground I was shown a route by a city supporter it’s a bit shorter from the normal route from Station Square, bear left onto Eaton Road, after 100 yards turn left onto footpath turn sharp right onto steps, turn left onto underpass, a few yards continue onto underpass ramp, bear right onto footbridge, continue straight onto underpass, continue onto Freemans Way, after 100 yards bear right onto underpass, then continue straight onto Warwick Row, continue onto Bull Yard, then straight onto Hertford Street and after a few yards bear left onto Broadgate, continue straight onto Trinity Street, About 100yards bear right onto Millennium Place, continue straight onto Hales Street, continue onto Garden of International Friendship, continue straight onto underpass, after 50 yards turn left onto footpath, continue straight onto Ringway Slip Road ,at the roundabout, take the 1st exit for Foleshill Road, you’ll eventually pass AVIS, pass Merry’s Garage at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit for Phoenix Way, turn right onto Phoenix Way, at the roundabout, continue straight on Phoenix Way the grounds in front of you this is a 48 minute walk
