Another game another ground this was always going to be the highlight of my holiday but at a cost missing Tranmere''s friendlies at Chorley (won 1-0)and at home to Rochdale(lost 1-3). Staying a couple of nights in Galway proved interesting with all the roads in and around the city being gridlocked for long periods of time in part due to having hosted a week of Arts events coupled with the upcoming horse races and Madness playing a gig. I decided to check the ground out early and in doing so had a brief chat with a former player Peter Carpenter who said he''d played a couple of times against Tranmere back in the days we ventured to the Emerald Isle mainly for St Patricks, heading back to the hotel I had another run in with the traffic and decided on a quick turnaround praying the congestion would pass with the rush hour but this was wishful thinking as the ten minute journey took over an hour with every twist and turn of direction hitting wall after wall of slow or stationary traffic. Once at the ground I bumped into a family of kindered spirits, mostly Max a DC United fan, his Polish wife and their two lads, they were keen to get to the club shop to buy replica shirts and scarfs as the rain lashed down unfortunately I wasn''t the only one to have been stuck in traffic as the shop eventually opened twenty minutes before kick off. I gave Max a few programmes i''d brought over with me and we took our seats in the main stand. We shared a few stories and a few pictures which was rudely interupted by kick off with Galway scoring with their first attack through McCormack with too much time and space from six yards out, also dominating early possession before Cabinteeley equalised after a long through ball set up a one on one with the keeper calmly finished by Doyle. Shortly after Galway retook the lead with a twenty yard shot which caught the keeper flatfooted and out of position HT 2-1. The second half followed a similar track both sides created chances and hit the woodwork but the home side looked set for a straightforward win when Barry scored a good goal and his second of the game but cabinteeley pulled another back after some pinball in the box was finished off by waters with five minutes plus stoppage time remaining to set up a nervy finish. The game ended before I headed off for food and back to my hotel as the traffic had eventually disapated. One footnote the following evening we stayed in Dublin not far from Cabinteeley and bumped into one of the staff(I think it was the manager Pat Devlin) in the course of his day job and had a good chat about the match and his team what are the odds?
