My one and only appointment as referee in the Southern Amateur League which is not quite as mysterious to me now as The Arthurian League run for the Old Boys of Public Schools. Although the football was nothing much to write about, the facilities were. After the match, food and drink was provided for the opponents as well as the referee. A very enjoyable experience compared to changing in an old railway wagon in a farmers field and then waiting ages for a bus on some cold winters day in the East Riding County League only some ten years earlier.
