GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"

The ground opened in 1927 and the original facilities included a low stand on the west side. Cheltenham Town FC moved here from Carter’s Field in 1932 and erected a cover over the narrow east side.

A new 1,088 seat main stand, fronted by a small paddock, was constructed on the west side during the 1950s and the ground record of 8,326 was established at the FA Cup 1st Round tie v. Reading (1-2) on November 17th, 1956. By the time that they joined the Football League in 1999 improvements had been made to the main stand, there were narrow uncovered terraces at each end and the terrace on the east side had been re-roofed.
The north end was roofed during 2000, a 2,000 seat stand built on the east side in 2001 and a 991 seat stand constructed at the south end in 2005 giving a total capacity of 7,066 with 3,912 seats. The pitch size was 111 x 73 yards.
