| Manchester United FC moved here from Bank Street in 1910. The ground was well developed with terracing on all sides and around the curved corners, whilst a stand was sited on the south side giving a nominal capacity of 80,000. Although the only other improvements prior to WWII were extensions to the cover on the south side and installation of a roof over part of the north side, the record attendance of 76,962 was set at the Wolverhampton Wanderers v. Grimsby Town (5-0) FA Cup Semi-Final on March 25th, 1939.
Badly damaged during the war, the club was not able to use the partially reconstructed ground until 1949 (the main stand was still unroofed at this stage) following which the installation of the missing roof and continuation of cover around the west side were the main alterations up to 1960. Although, during the next thirty four years, Old Trafford was gradually converted to a 44,594 capacity all-seater stadium with a continuous cantilever roof it proved to be too small and a new rebuilding programme was undertaken.
The first replacement stand, a three-tier 25,500 seat structure, was built in 1996 following purchase of additional land on the north side and second tiers were added at the east end in 2000 and west end in 2001 to give a seating accommodation of 68,174. In 2005 stands were installed in the northwest and northeast corners to increase the capacity to 76,100 and, as such, became the first League ground to have an all-seat capacity that exceeded that established when it had a mix of standing and seating accommodation. The pitch size was 116 x 76 yards.

| If driving to ground: South
Leave the M6 at Junction 19 and follow the A556 towards Altrincham. At the Little Bonnington roundabout go straight onto Chester Road/ A56 towards Manchester carry straight through Altrincham. Keep on the A56 for 8 miles and then you will come to see Sir Matt Busby Way on your left. It best you park in Altrincham and take the Metro straight to Old Trafford as there is little parking around the ground
North
Leave the M6 at Junction 30 and take the M61 towards Bolton. At the end of the M61, join the M60at Junction 14. Leave the M60 at Junction 9 and follow the A5081/ Park Way to the Trafford Centre and park the car here it’s free and take the Metro or walk to the ground it’s just over a mile.
West/East
Follow M56 until its end and then take the M60 (W&N) as for Trafford Centre. At Junction 7 leave M60 and take the A56 towards Stretford. Stay on the A56 for 2.1 miles then you will come to see Sir Matt Busby Way on your left. The ground is half a mile down this road on your left, although on matchdays this road may be closed to traffic. So park at the Trafford Centre Car Park it’s so big they don’t have a restriction on time and take the Metro or walk to the ground it’s just over a mile.

| If using Public Transport: The best way to get to the stadium is by Metrolink or train from Manchester Piccadilly mainline station, it is either Old Trafford for the Metro line or Old Trafford Halt railway station next to the ground which is located next to Lancashire County Cricket Club on Warwick Road, which leads up to Sir Matt Busby Way. The railway station is less busy than the Metrolink and is best used after the game as everybody takes the metro.
The walk is a straight 50 minute walk for those who have time and wish to visit the pub on the way, you come of the station turn left then right into Fairfield Street after 100 yards turn into Deansgate the continue down the A56 which becomes the Chester Road after about a mile and half the ground is in front of you
