GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"

The site was purchased by Dartford FC in 1921 and the facilites included a seated grandstand on the west side and banking around the ground. The stand burned down in 1926 and was replaced by a 1,000 seat edifice whilst, in 1930, a covered enclosure was constructed on the east side.

Additional terracing was installed at the south end and in front of the main stand before Maidstone United FC moved here from The Athletic Ground in 1988 to groundshare with Dartford FC. The financial demise of Maidstone United in 1992 also brought their hosts down with them and Dartford FC was forced to move out in the same year. The Watling Street ground was immediately demolished and replaced with housing.
