GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"

The 3.5 acre site, located on the east side of Seabank Road, south of the town centre and previously in use as a school’s football pitch, was purchased by New Brighton FC in 1921. Upon the opening of the ground in the same year, a 1,000 seat covered stand with a concrete terraced paddock had been provided on the north side and one of the two buildings which already existed on the site, Sandheys Lodge, was in use as dressing rooms. Later improvements, giving a nominal capacity of 20,000, included the installation of a covered standing enclosure on the south side.

The ground was badly damaged by bombing during 1942 and, following the end of WWII, the site requisitioned for temporary housing by Wallasey Corporation. New Brighton moved to The Tower Athletic Ground for the commencement of post war football and Sandheys Park was later redeveloped with permanent housing.
