GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
Burnley FC moved to Turf Moor from Calder Vale in 1883 and within two years the facilities included an 800 seat stand on the south side, an embankment on the north and standing areas with duckboards at each end. Prior to WWI covers had been erected on the north side and at the west end whilst the record attendance of 54,775 was set at the FA Cup 3rd Round tie v. Huddersfield Town  (1-0) on February 23rd, 1924.

Alterations prior to WWII included the commencement of terracing of the north side and this was duly completed and roofed by 1954. In 1969 a 4,500 seat stand was opened at the west end, a new all seat main stand constructed on the south side in 1974 and, in the 1990s, cantilever roofed two tier all-seated stands built on the north side and at the east end. By the start of the 2007/8 season the all-seat ground capacity was 22,546 and the pitch size 112 x 70 yards.
