What can I say about this one?!  The standard that all away games would hope to achieve!   It was an innocuous away fixture, plucked out of the list at the start of the season. Mansfield have always had a "special" place in my heart due to our battles with them, at Wembley and in the league, when I first started watching City in the old 3rd Division.   We had a good drive up and stopped at a pub in Annersley Woodhouse.  It was decent enough and the landlord tried his best to get us to come to evenings festivities he was laying on!   We ended up parking in a side street not too far away from the ground (after reading advice not to park in the retail centre car park, due to fines and clamping and such) and had a quiet stroll to the ground.   I was very impressed.  Both ends looked very tidy and the main gradstand was absolutely huge for a club the size of Mansfield.  The ground was unusual in that the players tunnel came out from between the away end and the main grandstand.   The Notts constabulary were over zealously policing the away end and ended up throwing a group of lads out who looked rather out of it.  Meanwhile there was a large group of blokes amassed by the segragation in the main grandstand giving it large, who I suspect weren't your usual Mansfield Town fans.   The game itself though....well you couldn't have written it.   City went 1 down but equalised through Scott Murray straight away.  Half time comes and goes.  City go 2-1 up straight after the break - Christian Roberts with a cheeky lob over Kevin Pilkington in the Mansfield Goal.  Then came a huge moment of controversy.  Mansfield attack.  Their striker dives over the outstretched leg of Louis Carey, gets a penalty.  A melee ensues and one of the Mansfield strikers is sent off.  The penalty is saved by Phillips but the rebound is put in.  2-2.  With 10 men, Mansfield then take a corner whilst one of our players is getting up off the ground after being injured and they manage to tuck away a third.  Then as if it couldn't get worse City concede a breakaway 4th.  2-4.  Danny Wilson pushes Leroy Lita on and it is an inspired substitution.  The 10 men suddenly can't cope with City's incessant attacks and Lita gets hacked down in the box.  On 82 minutes Brian Tinnion strokes the ball away.  3-4.  There's still hope.  Time ticks down and City throw everything at Mansfield.  As the clock rolls over to 90 minutes the ball is crossed in low from the right.  Somehow it is deflected in past the despairing Pilkington.  Lita wheels away to celebrate and we celebrate wildly at having salvaged a point.  However....City go on the attack again.  Christian Roberts collects a one-two on the edge of the area and unleashes a totally unstoppable drive into the top right hand corner.  5-4!!!!!  We cannot believe it and the roof nearly comes off the away end as we jump about in mass-delerium.  Some of the Mansfield players are on their knees, their fans can't believe it.  Seconds later the final whistle blows and we are all shellshocked at what we just witnessed.  And people sometimes ask what I see in football....!   We were again overzealously policed on the way out of the ground, but got out of Mansfield fine.
