Great day out, Barnsley itself is a small town with the football club quite literally at its heart. From getting of the train local folk knew we werent from around there but were however helpful and friendly when realising we were not away fans. A short walk uphill from the town centre through old terraces led us to Costa Del Oakwell baking in the South Yorkshire sun Sat in the East stand, which provided a great view of he Ponty' stand, a stunning Archie Leitch structure which was reminisant of the clock stand at Roker Park. The two ends were similar to each other as your typical 90's all seats no charm corrigated steel structures as was the stand i was in. The 3 new stands and one smaller old stand gave an Ewood Park feel. Match catering was okay too, i had a decent Steak Pie for £2.20 and a plastic pint is the standard £3. Managed to purchace a programme and pin badge from the club shop which was on a whole quite small in comparison to other Championship clubs. There was a great atmosphere despite the low attendance (charlton only brought 500) but the fact that Barnsley were still playing for their lives ensured a decent turn out and display from the home boys! And any home crowd is happy after scoring 3. I was sitting next to your typical cynical yorkshire pensioner i got a couple of chuckles out of his comments, not as many as the lad in front who im sure Vauxhall use in their Zafira adverts having an older mental age than the pensioner!
