Torquay got revenge on Bristol Rovers for appointing their manager Paul Buckle with a close victory. Taiwo Atieno found space in the box to fire the Gulls into the lead from the edge of the area. And four minutes later Rene Howe scored a penalty after keeper Scott Bevan brought down Kenya striker Atieno. Byron Anthony got one back for Rovers with a close-range header and Pirates substitute Chris Zebroski fired wide against his former club. Buckle was named Rovers boss in May, two days after his Torquay side lost in the play-off final to Stevenage and signed Bevan and Zebroski from his old club.
