I was booked to go to Shrewsbury but their pitch was frozen, so I stopped of at Coventry. I was up at 5.45 walked to Brom Sth on a frosty morning, caught the 6.35, and the 7.35 at Euston. Due to a train derailment at Bletchley an emergency service operated, which meant I changed at Milton Keynes for the 8.30. 40 mins later I was sitting The Earl of Mercia Wetherspoons in Coventry waiting for my full English, tea & toast (£5). To Pool Meadow bus station for the 81 bus to Berkswell. As I had to wait till 10.53 for the hourly bus I popped across the road to the Transport Museum. Back at the bus station a young lad, Jack, who lives in the village offered to show me where to get off for St Johns church, but he got the wrong one, and I was left to catch the same bus on its return journey. By now it was 14.00 and the 101 match day bus (£4, free for me) was filling up with fans. I got chatting to a guy my age with his grandson, who was friendy and told me where to buy a ticket. A queue, but paid my £16 with 10 mins to kick off. Climbed to the top of the Tesco stand back row for a panoramic view of the pitch. Not a bad game and chatted to young guy next to me. Ipswich took the lead on 16 mins and Cov scored two to lead at half time. The locals, aware that their team had sacrificed points in the dying minutes of many games (leading at Blackpool 1-0 with 8 mins to go and lost 2-1 last Tues) were fearing the worst for the second half. Ipswich got a soft penalty, the offended Martin, being booed for the rest of the game, and in the last minute of injury time the Tractor boys got the winner. I was in the loo at this time, having decided to hasten back on the bus to try to catch an earlier train from the one I was booked on. It had snowed since half time and was fairly heavy as we left the ground. I met up with my travelling companion from the outward journey and I commiserated on their bad luck. Caught 17.30 back to Euston and guard did not query my ticket. Home by 19.50
