However, almost immediately, Sutton were awarded a penalty and reduced the arrears to 3-2. Both teams then had chances but the score remained 3-2 at 90 minutes when the 4th official signalled an astonishing 8 minutes added time which seemed excessive even with the short floodlight delay. A Sutton equaliser seemed increasingly inevitable and, sure enough, it arrived in the last of the 8 added minutes.
