Having relinquished top spot, the Saddlers had dropped to 4th place. Despite Walsall beating Crewe 1-0 away Bradford City scored a late late winner at home to Fleetwood meaning Bradford claimed the last automatic promotion spot behind Doncaster and Port Vale. Walsall put 2 past Chesterfield away in the playoff 1st leg and put themselves in pole position. The atmosphere from a packed Bescot five days later was unbelievable throughout the match. 2 late goals ensured Walsall''s place at Wembley in the final.
