Another convergence game (only one more left after this!) and tremendous fun start to finish. Big storm over the previous 24 hours caused my first train (WTC-CRE) to be cancelled. Then it was reinstated only to be delayed by 40 minutes at Ludlow. So in the end it was a mad car dash to Crewe to catch my London train. With our road still flooded under the bridge it meant going via Whitchurch so even more stress. But made it and arrived London only a few minutes late. Charlie still working so I sat in the Bag of Nails for an hour (and only ONE pint) to wait for her. As long planned, we combined this ground with a visit to Dukes Bar in London for one of their world-famous vesper martinis. Joined by Matt and his friend Josh, we made it but had to queue. It was absolutely worth it! The quaint tiny bar, the old-fashioned poshness of it all and the theatrical creation of the martinis made it all very special. And the drink itself was spectacular (not to mention the 5 units of alcohol getting the night off to a fast start). Charlie paying put the icing (and cherry) on the cake. We were running a bit behind schedule by now so took a cab to Victoria and another to the ground (from Bromley South). What an eye-popping change from my last visit. Huge investment and development have made it a proper high quality and good looking Football League ground and easily amongst the better I have seen outside of the Championship. A real grass pitch too now (of course as per EFL rules) versus the plastic carpet I saw last time. We stood together on the north terrace amongst pleasant regulars and watched a pretty good competitive match. Actually though, tbh, we spent most of the time chatting and laughing. Then it was a walk back to the station (the long way having missed a critical turning), a swift beer (at either end of the train journey), then on to the hotel (Rubens) for the smiley sleep of the very happy DT92er. A great evening out. - Bromley the first time Saturday 21 September 2019 National League Versus Notts County Score 2-1 Attendance 3,122 I was feeling horrible when I started - heavy cold/cough - but I''d bought the tickets and the sun was shining. Train one to Crewe on time but next into Euston late by 15 minutes meaning a rush and finally a run to catch the train out of Victoria. But I made it (sweaty!!) and a gentle walk through the leafy suburbs of Bromley to the ground. It''s in fields. Even a couple of horses grazing out in front. But inside quite developed with the new big stand sitting proud behind the south end goal. And the clubhouse was excellent: noisy but casual and friendly. The pitch is plastic but somehow played a lot better than Oxford City. That said, the game was not great. In fact pretty poor mostly and the second half particularly scrappy. How Bromley sit atop the table I cannot fathom. I''m sure I''ve seen better in this league and even the one below but sounds like they scratch our results and that''s what counts. I left a bit early so I could stroll back to the station and all was calm and easy all the way home. A good day but not one the best. However, I would definitely be a regular there if I lived in the area. It felt like a very vibrant club. So happy smile.
