This game was John Aldridge''s last for Liverpool before a £1.1 million transfer to Real Sociedad. He came on as a 67th minute substitute and scored with a penalty. Aldridge was waiting to enter the game when the penalty was awarded but manager Kenny Dalglish made an instant substitution replacing John Barnes with Aldridge. At the end of the game Aldridge threw his boots and shirt into the kop. This was Liverpool''s biggest win in the first division since they beat Rotherham 10-1 in 1896. I stopped watching Liverpool after this game. Selling a scouser who didn''t want to leave was the last straw for me.
