Have hundreds to choose from at Maine Road. This was the best for me.City had been coasting to promotion and then the wheels came off.We had gone to Notts County the previous Monday expecting to clinch promotion only to be 3 down by half time. The Charlton game had a great deal of tension prior to kick off with City suffering a number of injuries/suspensions.No McCarthy or Baker and Melrose not 100% fit, most supporters feared the worst. The atmosphere was incredible,I don''t recall any Charlton supporters.City fans were desperate to see the game. The stadium seemed to be at bursting point. An early Phillips goal was what was needed with Andy May''s looping header finding the top corner.2-0 at half time.Melrose,Simpson and Phillips again saw City go nap before a late Charlton goal.Final whistle brought a pitch invasion I''ve never witnessed though I was too far at the back of the Kippax terrace to get there.A great day, never to be forgotten.
