Drove there.
Neat ground but largely soulless. I''d been told Nantwich Weaver Stadium was a copy but it didn''t feel like it. The main stand, yes, but beyond that, not a lot. Great statue outside, though. A really good action trio of Jimmy Armfield, Geoff Hurst and some Italian guy - all allegedly locally born in Ashton. very impressive artwork.
The game was fast and brutal. Buxton clearly the better side - more aggressive, skilful and ambitious. but 0-0 at half time when the miserable misty cold rain really started to irritate. I didn''t last much of the second half, heading home to manage the most difficult of the journey in the light. Still not fully warm now as I write this. But another one chalked off although this one will not live long in the memory. If at all.
