GROUND HISTORY

The Park Avenue ground had been used for both rugby and cricket before the formation of Bradford Park Avenue AFC in 1907. The facilities, which originally included a covered seated stand on the south side (backing on to the cricket ground at a higher level) and standing areas around the ground, were improved with the construction of a new main stand (incorporating a covered seated area overlooking the cricket pitch) and a pavilion on the south side and the installation of a cover on the north side.
Later improvements included the provision of some concrete terracing and the installation of a cover at the west end. The record attendance of 32,810 was, unusually, set at a Wartime Cup match v. Blackpool on April 8th, 1944. (The attendance was originally reported as being 2,000 higher but a faulty turnstile was found to have been registering people twice.) The club failed to gain re-election to the Football League in 1970 and moved out to Valley Parade for their final season of existence in 1973. The club subsequently re-formed and the partially demolished site of Park Avenue remained derelict until it was utilized as the site of a Fitness First Gym in 2003.
