This match was played here after Edgeley Park was closed following crowd trouble and took place shortly after the Manchester United v. Derby County afternoon fixture had finished. As Stockport County had already been relegated the fans boycotted this game in protest and although this situation led to the record for the lowest ever Football League attendance being established when only 13 paid at the gate, it was also witnessed by a couple of thousand spectators who had stayed on following the previous match.
