A convincing home display saw Bromley make it two wins from two as Boreham Wood were beaten at Hayes Lane.
The Wood went close early on when captain Daryl McMahon saw two powerful efforts blocked after former Bromley man Ali Chaaban was fouled on the edge of the box. McMahon stepped up and his first shot was blocked by the wall before his second effort came back off a defender. Tutu Henriques then came to the home side's rescue when Chaaban charged down a Dean Santangelo kick and the ball reached Ollie Palmer who beat Santangelo to it and rounded him before putting the ball back into the box towards Chaaban, but Henriques was there first as the forward looked to pull the trigger. The visitors continued to look dangerous on the break and they came forward at pace from a Ryan Dolby corner, with McMahon feeding Palmer in down the right hand side, and he tried to give it back to McMahon in the box, only for Ryan Adams to make a great last ditch interception. The home side slowly started to get into the game and a great passing move saw Orlando Smith bring the first save out of Boreham Wood goalkeeper Elvijs Putnins. The winger had the ball on the right hand side and cut in past two defenders before playing a lovely one-two with Danny Hockton and firing in a low left footed effort that Putnins just managed to hold on to under pressure from Hakeem Araba. Bromley then opened the scoring with their next attack, and without the need for any clever football as a long kick from Santangelo was simply headed on by Danny Hockton, putting Araba through, and the popular forward was able to finish past Putnins and into the far corner. Only a fine save from Putnins prevented the lead from being doubled just a minute later as Danny Waldren pumped a long free-kick into the box that was met at the far post by Liam Harwood who headed back across goal, where Hockton saw his flick superbly tipped wide by the goalkeeper. The home side continued to enjoy goal scoring opportunities and Ryan Dolby was unlucky to fire over the bar after Danny Waldren had headed a Marlon Patterson cross back to the winger. The Wood were by no means out of the game, and went very close to equalising when McMahon found David Bryant who twisted and turned before poking the ball goal wards, only to be denied by the feet of Santangelo. The game continued to go from end to end and Danny Hockton's teasing ball across goal was met by Ryan Dolby but deflected wide as both sides enjoyed first-half chances. Hockton himself then went close when Joe Dolan's ball into the box was just too deep for goalkeeper Putnins to reach, and Hockton met the ball at the far post but could only head over. Ryan Dolby then fired into the side netting after Danny Waldren had won the ball with a strong challenge as Bromley started to enjoy the better of the chances before Araba showed great pace to come inside before firing high and wide.
The first real chance of the second half saw the second goal of the game as Danny Hockton opened his league account for the season. Ryan Dolby came inside at pace before putting the ball back out wide to Danny Waldren, and his low cross was met by the left foot of Hockton, with goalkeeper Putnins only able to get a hand to his effort as it trickled in at the far post. Hockton and strike partner Hakeem Araba combined a few minutes later with the latter playing in the former only for Hockton to drag his low shot wide. Ryan Dolby should have extended the lead even further after Orlando Smith had twisted and turned past a number of challenges and fed Dolby in acres of space but he could only fire straight at Putnins from close range. The home side almost gifted The Wood a way back into the game after Liam Harwood slipped and allowed Ollie Palmer in only for Santangelo to get to the ball first but kick it straight to David Bryant, and his shot was deflected just wide of the near post. Ryan Dolby and Marlon Patterson combined superbly down the left hand side a few minutes later and the former put a dangerous ball into the box that found Orlando Smith, but defender Daniel Braithwaite bravely blocked his effort and deflected it over the bar. Smith did better with his next effort after Marlon Patterson played a superb cross field ball to the winger who showed great skill to bring the ball down, come inside and fire a superb powerful effort past Putnins with his left foot. Another superb passing move resulted in Bromley's fourth goal of the evening, as Harry Harding worked the ball well with Ryan Adams and Leon McKenzie, with the former playing Harding into the box, and the substitute chipped the ball up for fellow substitute Gareth Williams to volley home. A fifth would have been added had it not been for a superb low save from Elvijs Putnins, with the goalkeeper getting down superbly well to palm away a Leon McKenzie header from an Orlando Smith cross as Bromley failed to add to their lead but still recorded their largest victory since February 2010.
