WHAT A GAME !! THE LEAGUE CUP SEMI FINAL AT ST ANDREWS !!
Birmingham where 1-0 down from the first leg at Portman Road and up against it as Ipswich where a top Premiership team while Birmingham where a top 1st Division side !! The atmosphere was unbeliavable !! The Fletcher family sat together and the game began !!
The blues fans where out in full voice and hoping to send there team to the final at the Millemium Stadium !! A nervy first half looked like it was heading to 0-0, Chris & Marc went up the back for a beer and then the ground erupted, Martin Grainger had scramble a header in at the back post and the tie was level !! The first half ended and everyone took a breather !!
The second hald began and the atmosphere was electrice and after about ten minutes Blues scored to go in further in front and for the first time be infront in the tie. Geoff Horsefield went through on goal, his first shot was saved by Richard Wright but his second he hammered in to the net !!! Supporters where on the pitch !! Marc ran on and jumped on Adebola !! The lead however was short lived as within about a minute from kick off Ipswich went forward to score and bring the tie all sqaure !! Full time arrived and extra time was heading our way !! Some supporters thought Ipswich had won on the away goal rule but this had recently been changed so the tie was very much alive !!
Extra time started nervously but a couple of minutes before the end of the first period Blues struck, Danny Sonner played through Geoff Horsefield who passed the ball in to the back off the net to give Blues back there advantage !! St Andrews erupted but there was still 15 minutes to go !! Ipswich battled and put some pressure on in the 2nd period to try and bring themselves back in to it however the game was soon over. A backpass from a Ipswich defender was missed byy Richard Wright and Andrew Johnson run through, there was no way he was going to miss and he smashed the ball home in to a empy net to make it 4-1 and game over !! Johnson went mad, the players mad, the fans went mad, the staff went mad and St Andrews was rocking !!!!!!!!!!! The full time whistle arrived and Blues where heading to the Millemium Stadium to play Liverpool in the league cup final !!!!!!!!! Trevor Francis had lead his beloved Birmingham City to a first major final in 38 years !!!!!! The fans invaded the pitch !!!! Fletch rings girlfriend Emmaline from on the pitch and has a victory chat !!
A great night all round and now everyone was looking forward to the final !!!!!
