GAS HOLD PARS TO A DRAW Posted on: Wed 25 Jul 2007 DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC McManus 15 & 40 2-2 BRISTOL ROVERS Lambert 16 Walker (pen) 50 ATTENDANCE: 1,118 (84 away) Rickie Lambert and Richard Walker were on target for Rovers in their 2-2 draw against Dunfermline at East End Park tonight, with Tam McvManus scopring both goals for the home side. Rovers were once again without the injured Ryan Green for the first of their three friendly fixtures in Scotland this week. On an excellent playing surface, and in bright sunshine, both sides made a lively opening. The first real opening came after ten minutes when Richard Walker laid a pass into the path of Chris Carruthers, but the left back skied his first time shot over the crossbar. The home side took the lead on15 minutes, when a Chris Carruthers rebounded off of Scott Thomson and ricocheted into the area to Tam Mcmanus, who beat Steve Phillips from close range. There was an immediate response from Rovers, who were level within a minute. A long ball into the area found Richard Walker, who back heeled the ball into the path of Rickie Lambert and the former Rochdale striker hit a ferocious drive past goalkeeper Roddy McKenzie from 12 yards. The goal seemed to lift Rovers and there followed a spell of pressure in which they almost increased their lead. Lewis Haldane saw his deflected shot touched round the post by McKenzie and Lambert hit an angled drive wide of the upright. With five minutes of the half remaining, though, McManus scored his, and Dunfermline's second goal of the evening when he turned and hit a low shot past Phillips from the edge of the six yard box after being played in by Stephen Simmons. It took Rovers just five minutes to level the scores. Goalkeeper Mckenzie wrestled Craig nDisley to the ground as he burst into the area and referee Mike Tumitty immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Last season's leading scorer, Walker, sent the keeper the wrong way with his spot kick, and was denied a second goal five minutes later, when McKenzie touched his left foot drive round the post. That was the end of the scoring, although Philips made a fine save from Simmons before the end, and Disley fired wide after another break into the area. It was a good, competitive workout for Rovers, whose next game is against Cowdenbeath on Thursday evening. ________________________________________ BRISTOL ROVERS: Steve Phillips, Aaron Lescott, Byron Anthony, Steve Elliott, Chris Carruthers (Joe Jacobson, 65), Sammy Igoe (David Pipe, 46), Stuart Campbell, Craig Disley, Lewis Haldane (Andy Sandell, 70), Richard Walker (Andy Williams, 65), Rickie Lambert (Sean Rigg, 76).
