Went to this game on my own on a Tuesday evening. Took almost an hour to get to and arrived just before kick off. Went in to a tidy little stadium which was good for the level. There was a decent attendance for what was a top of the table clash. Having seen both sides recently I was expecting Ely to be the better side and they very much were. The game was played with alot of passion and at a fast pace. Ely spurned several chances early on and were made to pay when Wroxham were given what looked like a dodgy penalty. The spot kick was well converted and Wroxham played a bit better after their goal. Both sides had good chances before half time but it was the visitors who went in ahead. The 2nd half started at the same frenetic pace, with challenges flying in. One Ely player did well to carry on after one clumsy looking challenge and after a few minutes of treatment was clearly hobbling, he did however manage to put in the cross for the Ely equaliser which was thoroughly deserved. Both sides had half chances to win it and with time running down Wroxham won it with a header from a corner with the last touch of the match. Ely will surely feel gutted not to of won the game as they were the much better side, their 2 centre halfs were outstanding as they had been last week when I saw them play. Both sides looked dangerous from set pieces throughout and ultimately Wroxhams slight edge on this side of things won them the match. Particularly noteable were the amazing long throw ins that Ely kept producing, I have never seen anyone achieve such distance, I amsure they would even of given Rory Delap a run for his money. So the result leaves Ely 2 points clear however Wroxham have closed the gap and must surely be favourites for the title with 2 games in hand. All in all really enjoyed the trip.
