Match no. 459. My mate Steve, who had previously supported Gillingham, had switched his allegiance to Walthamstow Avenue. This was the first of 6 visits to Green Pond Road over the next few years. 1979-80 was the first season in which shirt sponsorship was permitted by the FA and Avenue gained the unlikely accolade of becoming the first team I saw with a sponsor''s name on their shirts: Adasand, a local sports store.
