This was the first time I went to a game at the Stadium of Light in the Southwest corner. Right next to the away fans (and there were a lot of them! Seems Villa laid on free coaches) so great atmosphere. With us being in the last row it was hard to see, especially since people in front insisted on standing, meaning I had to stand as well. For 90 minutes that's hard. Add in the Extra Time & Penalty Shootout, and my feet were killing me by the end!
Went to the match with Stew & Britney, and some of their family, so this marks another first in that I went to the game at Sunderland on my own! Granda will be proud, I'm sure.
This was also the first time I experienced the nailbiter that is Extra Time, as well as the dreaded Penalty Shootout. A lot of people left after the 2nd round of penalties (at which point it was 2-0 to Villa) but I stayed to the bitter end to see Sunderland go down 3-1. It was the first time I saw Sunderland lose, but I doubt it will be the last. At least I've never seen them lose in normal time, or in the league.
