After beating Man City in the Carling Cup during the week, expectations were high for Brighton to complete their second win of the season at Northampton (after the 1-0 victory in the JPT). Unfortunately, Albion's poor league form continued with a draw which, while acceptable, was barely deserved.
Brighton went ahead from the penalty spot, Murray making no mistake after Anyinsah was hauled down in the area. Northampton equalised through Akinfenwa, a scrappy but richly deserved equaliser after being on the upper hand for most of the second half. Brighton were happy to hold on for a 1-1 draw, but amazingly scored a second in the first minute of injury time, although this was not the end of the drama. Deep into injury time Northampton equalised again, this time for a poorly defended corner. An exciting game, and a well-earned point, but this was an interesting game where we deserved to lose, thought we had won, and ended up with neither.
Sixfields was as average as I remember it, being one of the few stadiums I've visited more than once. There was a decent atmosphere, with a good secton of the crowd allowed to stand throughout, and Northampton fans being FAR noisier than last season.
