Caught 6.50 from BS and 7.55 from St Pancras (222022) , arr 10.00 at Sheffield on a dry cool day. Went to bus station and caught 10.10 265 bus to Ecclesfield, arr 10.45 and to St Marys (I''d spoken to the vicar the day before to see if it was open, and he told me they were having a coffee morning) and had tea & cake, viewed the church, and introduced myself to the Rev Hartley. Got 75 bus at 11.14 back to town, and decided to get tram to outskirts of town for a local pub for lunch. took the Purple line to Herdings Park, but didn''t see a pub. The ticket collecter suggested the Centertainment stop just after the Don Valley Arena stop, which the return journey would take me to. Lunched in Bella Pasta with a glass of red wine, and walked to the Don Valley. On the way popped into an old pub, surrounded by so much regeneration, the Noose & Gibbet. Asked for half of Guiness, no real ale of course, and was told they only sell pints! Walked out. At the ground paid £10 entry, plus £2.50 prog, had a beer in the spacious area under the stand. Its an athletics stadium but well appointed, which probably gets little use and will get even less after today as this is Rotherham''s last game here after 4 years, as they return to a new stadium in Rotherham next season. Unobstructed view of the game, which was typical of this league. The home side scored a good goal in the first half, and I missed the last ditch equaliser by N''ton, as I''d left at start of injury time to make sure I got tram back to town and the station. Got the 17.35 (222018) slower train home with more stops, arr St P 20.04. Usual rush to get to Vic, and was really breathless after walking up escalator, and running up stairs. Just missed 20.22, but slow train at 20.25 so no wait. Home 21.05 to nice reception from Eve.
