AS expected, Partizan Belgrade proved too strong for Rhyl, winning their Champions League first leg 4-0 at a rain-soaked Belle Vue.
After a quiet opening spell, the Serbians took control just after the quarter-hour, hitting the hosts with a double whammy inside two minutes.
Rhyl captain George Horan fouled Diarra on the edge of the box and Mladen Krstajic stroked the resulting free kick past keeper Lee Kendall via the underside of the bar.
A minute later, the visitors made it two, when Ilic's right-wing cross was met with a pinpoint header at the far post by Brazilian centre forward Cleo.
The Lillies held out until the stroke of half-time when the dangerous Ilic hammered a curling shot against the crossbar and Lamine Diarra swept home the rebound.
The Serbians played some superb possession football after the break, although Luke Holden brought a good save from Bozovic with a stinging shot.
And, on 70 minutes, the added a fourth when a deep Tomic corner from the right was headed past Kendall from 12 yards out by Nenad Djordjevic.
With 10 minutes remaining, Luke Holden missed a great chance to snatch a consolation goal for the Lillies, firing high over the bar from a good position.
Holden, direct from a corner, and sub Mark Connolly from a long-range free-kick came close to opening the home account, but the Lillies face a second-leg formality in Serbia in a week's time
