Not much charity in the first Charity Shield to be played at Wembley. Decidedly unfriendly with Bremner and Keegan sent off and then making matters worse by tearing off their shirts and throwing to the ground. Liverpool won 6-5 on pens but the talking point was the bad blood between the teams

Match no. 326. The first Charity Shield to be played at Wembley. Also Brian Clough''s first game of his short-lived spell as Leeds manager. The game included a notorious incident on the hour where Billy Bremner and Kevin Keegan were sent off for fighting and both took off their shirts and threw them down onto the running track as they made their way off. Phil Boersma put Liverpool ahead on 19 minutes with Trevor Cherry equalising after 70 minutes. It was also the first Charity Shield to be decided by a penalty shoot-out, Liverpool winning 6-5 (Leeds goalkeeper David Harvey crucially missed their 6th pen). However, there was an extremely unpleasant and threatening atmosphere inside the stadium and myself and my friends left the ground well before the end of the game.
