sunny mild day, so decide at 12.00 to go to Dartford. 13.20 from Hayes, change at Lewisham, arr Dartford at 14.15. After short walk, a bus came along, I enquired if it went to the stadium, and it did, so at the ground by 14.30. The bus had dedicated bus lanes, and was titled Fastbus. £8 conc and £2.50 for good program. Nice modern stadium, with free seating down one side, a wraparound raised walkway surrounding the terracing, from which you can watch the action. All under cover. Spacious bar, which sold 2 Westerham ales, I chose Finchcocks at £3.20 a pint.
As Cambridge are second in the table, they had a good following. I found a seat at the back of the five rows of seating and had a good view. Cambridge thru'' Ryan Bird, scored after 2 mins and he got a second on 15 mins, a well taken shot with the outside of the boot to the RH corner. It looked like a rout, especially as Dartford''s recent form was poor, and they languished second from bottom. However they got a penalty which Elliot Bradbrook scored on 26 mins. Then max Cornhill headed an equaliser 2 mins into first half injury time. Local fans delighted. The second half offered little until on 69 mins Danny Harris scored with an acute angle going in from the underside of the bar, putting Dartford into the lead. A ggod comeback from 2-0 down. 5 mins later the U''s had a penalty which the keeper saved. But not to be denied Luke Berry equalised on 79 mins. I''d left my seat at 80mins to be near the exit and use the loo. watching from the terrace behind the goal, noticed it was raining and saw lightening. Wrapped my prog in plastic bag, and left with 5 to go to get to the bus stop before the crowds and get out of the rain, which was now pouring down. Bus stopped near the station, but climbed steps to pedestrian bridge and jogged in heavy rain to shelter in the station. and a train to Lewisham pulled in as I descended to the platform. Used my new Nokia phone to check train and bus times for best journey back. Went via Lewisham again, getting a coffee and flapjack there to while away the wait for the 17.44 to Hayes. Home at 18.20.
