Not as intense an experience as the 5-0 two weeks earlier, but still a great sense of occasion as the home fans celebrated becoming Polish Champions for the 10th time the day before, when Lech Poznan failed to win their match.
With nothing to actually play for Legia looked leggy in the heat (28 degrees), and failed to convert their dominance into a win.
All the fans then walked the 3 miles from the ground to the Old Town Square (Castle Square) which resembled a city in the throes of a battle, with endless firecrackers exploding, and the smoke from flares concealing all but the outline of the spires and clock towers of the Old Town's skyline. The singing was continuous through the 90 minutes then the 3 mile walk to town and then the walk behind the team's open-topped bus as it moved slowly down the trendy Nowy Swiat.
Again, it was an unforgettable experience. Football in Warsaw lives, and how!
PS The stadium is terrific: steeply raked stands, modern under-stand facilities, a great view for everyone. I believe it had been renovated at some cost for Euro 2012...and it was only just over a tenner to get in.
