This was a brilliant FA Cup first round draw. 2 teams that used to battle it out together in Divison 2 not so long ago. Hosted at Edgely Park, which has to be said is a great stadium, (other than no cover other the away end), but the home end was very large, and bigger than some premier league home stands. The atmosphere was great, (1232) of 4612 made the hour and thirty minute train down, and were strong in voice. Chester cruised to a 2-0 lead in the first half. The class of the league above was really showing against the conference north side. However, Stockport had evened the scores after no less than 4 minutes after the 2nd halfs start, and may i say, the noise generated by the County fans when they levelled was fantastic, and blew some of our travelling contingent away. However, in the end, Chester's passing element prevailed, and we won the game 2-4 in the match that finished with 10 men per side.
Unfortunately, a police overkill meant that all the Chester fans travelling by train had to be police escorted to the station straight and even on the train all the way back to Chester. I guess it added to the experience slightly!
It was a great day out, and now, after beating Southend 1-2 in round 2, the conference national side face league 1 opposition in the face of Barnsley away at Oakwell stadium. Over 1500 Chester fans expected to make the journey. I can't wait for this one!
