The only real moment of note in the opening period was the flares let off at one end of the ground, there being a distinct absence of goalmouth action. However, it was the home side who broke the deadlock with 67 minutes gone when top scorer Lee Angol placed a low free-kick into the far corner of the net. He had gone close in the first half so the East Brighton side should have expected trouble.
