Match no. 721. After extra time. Score at 90 minutes 1-1. An extraordinary match that was full of incident but, unfortunately, very poorly refereed by the normally reliable Roger Milford. Paul Gascoigne''s determination to replicate his semi-final performance only led to him charging around like a rogue elephant. He had already committed one bad foul that went unpunished when he launched a reckless lunge on Forest''s Gary Charles on the edge of the Spurs penalty area on the quarter hour. Gazza had, in fact seriously injured himself but, despite the foul warranting a straight red card, was again let off by Mr Milford and allowed to resume. Stuart Pearce immediately put Forest ahead from the free kick whereupon Gascoigne collapsed and had to be substituted. Mr Milford''s failure to send him off meant Spurs were able to replace him with Nayim who was to play a crucial part in the game. After 25 minutes Gary Lineker had a goal incorrectly disallowed for offside and 5 minutes after that he was brought down when through one-on-one with Forest keeper Mark Crossley. Crossley should have been red carded but once again Mr Milford displayed remarkable leniency and, almost inevitably, Crossley then saved Lineker''s spot-kick. In the second-half Nayim set up Spurs'' equalizer for Paul Stewart and, 4 minutes into extra-time, Forest''s Des Walker scored an own goal that, in the event, decided the game.
