Matt Phillips and Massimo Luongo on target for QPR in friendly win ... QPR beat Dundee United 2-1 in pre-season friendly Goals from Matt Phillips and Massimo Luongo hand R’s win Chris Ramsey’s side face Newport County next on Sunday GOALS from Matt Phillips and Massimo Luongo ensured QPR recorded a 2-1 win against Dundee United on Wednesday evening. The R’s pair struck either side of half time to hand Chris Ramsey’s side a pre-season win in their first friendly in the UK this summer. In a game played at Barnet’s Hive Stadium to protect the Loftus Road playing surface, it was QPR who tested their opponents first when Jamie Mackie went close after 12 minutes. Just seven minutes later Ramsey’s side was ahead as Matt Phillips raced through on goal before rounding Dundee United keeper Luis-Maria Zwick and coolly side footing into the empty net. The visitors’ response was to head over from close range in the 23rd minute as Blair Spittal wasted a chance to equalise before Chris Erskine had a penalty appeal waved away. United eventually made their possession pay though when just after the half hour mark striker Mario Bilate was afforded space inside the QPR penalty area to collect a ball from the right and brush it past Rob Green. The QPR stopper was then required to prevent a second goal as he denied Erskine five minutes from half-time – diving to his right - with Ben Gladwin firing well over the other end before the first half was brought to a close. The Arabs started the second half with the first chance when fullback Paul Dixon shot wide from distance before QPR’s Australian international Massimo Luongo curled wide from 18-yards. Rangers threatened to regain their lead when Mackie hit the outside of the post from out wide before the enthusiastic attacker tested the keeper from close range soon after. Rangers did however regain their lead in the 64th minute when Matt Phillips cross was headed back across goal by Ben Gladwin and Luongo was on hand to see his header squirm under the keeper from six-yards. Visiting substitute Fraser carved out an opening for the visitors when his neat ball over the top saw Murray lash wide from 12-yards before scaring the R’s once more when they hit Ramsey’s side on the counter attack only to see Bodul hit the side of Green’s goal. Striker Charlie Austin had experienced a quiet night but he nearly opened his pre-season account six minutes from time when Luongo’s tackle found Mackie and his through ball put the 26-year-old in on goal but his shot was just wide. It didn’t matter though as the Hoops sealed victory ahead of Sunday’s friendly at Newport County. QPR: Green, Furlong, Schorch (Kpekawa 78), Onuoha, Hill, Phillips, Luongo, Doughty, Gladwin, Mackie, Austin (Grego-Cox 89).
