Comments :
This was Hereford''s 3rd competitive match since its formation from the ashes of the defunct Hereford Utd (Ronnie Radford etc). Highgate were just back up in the Midland Premier League, after winning the league below. This had followed demotion the year before due to inadequate facilities at their ground. Highgate usually get crowds of around 50 (fifty), but the huge visiting support boosted the crowd to 566, the most on that ground for quite a while. Hereford looked the better side in the 1st half and missed 2-3 decent chances. Highgate defended well, and were always competitive, converting a penalty for a first half lead of 1-0. With a strike force who, between them, scored 95 goals last season, there was always a goal threat from Highgate''s Lei Brown and Shane Benjamin. With less than 10 mins to go Highgate''s Lei Brown scored a superb 30 yard direct free-kick into the top corner for 2-0. Hereford scored 2 mins alter but could not get the point. Visiting fans were good-humoured, and their consumption of cider and burgers will have helped the home side''s finances.
