I set off at 1410 and had to walk from Forest Pines car park in torrential rain to the red café pick up point for the coach. It took two hours to dry off.
I decided not to get any food at the services as it was only 1610. I wondered what would be available at Solihull. The map had shown little signs of fast food restaurants. I started to hope for fish and chips or a good sloppy burger from a van!
We arrived at the ground early and it looked pretty desolate around the outside so I decided to go into the bar where I treated myself to a Guiness. I met Graham Precious in the bar.
At 1935 I ventured out and found a burger van with well priced food. I got a cheese burger and a hotdog with onions.
I decided to sit behind the goal as it was raining heavily. The stand had just three rows of seats. I was surprised by how many Grimsby fans there were. I would guess about 150 or so.
The first half went by with the ball skidding about on very wet grass and Grimsby hit the post as well as having a goal ruled out for offside.
I moved to the other end of the ground for the second half. It had stopped raining. This end was open to the elements and was just a flat standing area. I gave their goalkeeper a lot of stick. Suddenly Solihull scored but that seemed to kick life into the match and soon later Grimsby had scored three goals including a penalty! Bogle, Alabi and McKreth on the score sheet.
Solihull never gave up and scored a penalty themselves which made the last five minutes more interesting than it should have been. So 3-2 the score and 475 wad the attendance.
A good result from our second string players and through to the next round of the FA Trophy.
I returned to the coach and felt satisfied with the result and glad to have made the effort as I reflected on the trip during the journey home.
