Match no. 690. Football League Cup. First visit to Hillsborough - working in Sheffield that week. The second leg ended in a 1-1 draw so Wednesday went through 3-2 on aggregate. As unlikely as it would have seemed at the time, 2nd Division Wednesday would go on to win the League Cup, beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final. By coincidence, when I first visited Griffin Park 11 years earlier, Sheffield Wednesday were the visitors.
