Total visits 1 Tranmere visits PLD 1 W0 D1 L0 GF0 GA0. The coach was scheduled to leave at 6.45 but with my car being in the garage i had to make arrangements to get to prentonpark which meant i was up shortly after 5am bleurgh. To be fair the journey down passed quiclkly, I'd managed to read the fanzine from cover to cover before our first stop at Watford gap and managed to get some sleep between there and the dartford crossing. On arrival at the ground we had a 15 minute palava finding where to park and the coach navigating the narrow streets nearby. As usual the first priority was to get a programme and take some pictures but Dover is not a ground you can walk around and has two pathways either side of a large oval rugby field, the one on the left leading up the hill to the away section and the right hand side to the home end. As with most non league grounds the clubshop is inside the ground and for some Tranmere fans seeking a badge as a memento they were to be left disappointed as the stewards had been directed to stop away fans approaching the outside entrance to the home end looking for programmes, badges or whatever which seemed draconian and over the top. Once in the ground parts of it felt like a prison with a long winding walk along a corragated alleyway and once in view of the pitch it is clear that every stand had obstructed views with countless support columns and wire mesh gates/fences seperating the two sets of supporters. The food on offer was very basic consisting of burgers or hotdogs so i abstained. As for the game it was Ugly. I'd say 20% football and 80% rugby. From a rovers perspective we started brightly for ten minutes pressing to the edge of the dover box but summed up with a Jeff Hughes move as he turned his man leaving him with a free shot but instead tapping the ball a few feet into the box with no rovers player in the vicinity to latch onto it. Around this time was the turning point in how the game was played, a long ball down the wing was set to be contested between Mekki and the Dover left back but instead of looking at the ball and chasing it the dover no23 looked directly at Mekki before flattening him with a crude bodycheck which deserved a yellow card but amazingly it 'wasn't seen? or acted upon ' by the officials not even a free kick!!!. The next ten minutes dover created several good chances and nearly scored direct from a corner with Davies loosing track of the ball. From then up until the last ten minutes it was one foul after another from both sides although they had forgotten to swap to an egg shaped ball the referee had to be replaced this however did not improve the level of officiating. As for that last ten minutes we created several chances and at last gave their keeper a couple of shots to save, dover picked up a few yellow cards in their attempts to stop us nicking it but it was a highly forgetable affair which neither side deserved to win. The journey home unfortunatley seemed to last a lot longer than on the way down.

We didn't get much going until the last few minutes. They had a free kick just outside the box in last second. It was a long way - too far away for that to go in.
