Torquay got revenge on Bristol Rovers for appointing their manager Paul Buckle with a close victory. Taiwo Atieno found space in the box to fire the Gulls into the lead from the edge of the area. And four minutes later Rene Howe scored a penalty after keeper Scott Bevan brought down Kenya striker Atieno. Byron Anthony got one back for Rovers with a close-range header and Pirates substitute Chris Zebroski fired wide against his former club. Buckle was named Rovers boss in May, two days after his Torquay side lost in the play-off final to Stevenage and signed Bevan and Zebroski from his old club. VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM Bristol Rovers manager Paul Buckle told BBC Radio Bristol: We didn''t see that coming. You can''t legislate for individual errors - Torquay''s first goal was quite good but to concede the second in the manner that we did gave us a mountain to climb. On a positive note, we finished the game by asking questions of Torquay but it hasn''t gone for us today. Torquay United manager Martin Ling told BBC Radio Devon: It proved to be a difficult place to come, but we did play particularly well to win the game. Rovers will be a top seven side this season, but we beat them on their home turf which is pleasing. For the fans it was a massive game. For the players I built it as just another away game.
