In the wake of storm Barbabra i set out at 6.45 eager not to get caught out by the early 1pm kick off. This was a fixture i had ear marked at the start of the season due to rumours and you tube videos stating their impending departure from central park however once at the ground an official told me this wasn''t going to happen unless a major investor came forward. I had visited the ground on two previous occasions but not on a match day. After stoping off at Tescos in Carlisle i soon crossed the border where the weather took a turn for the worse with plenty of rain and standing water and i later found out that their had been a pitch inspection at 8.30AM. Iwas greeted by driving rain and a bitter wind of a coldness only found in Scotland! Admission was £12 and whilst they didn''t issue tickets on the turnstyles my request was overheard by an official who duely gave me a used comp. Another nice surprise occured inside when i was approached by two more Tranmere fans who had spotted my Tranmere christmas jumper. It was a father and Son, Fred who was living up in Edinburgh and his Dad Rick from Heswall, a regular at prenton park they where taking in the game whilst visiting other relatives in Fife. First half i stood at the back of the ''new'' stand with the hardcore home fans overlooking the seats and the fences at the bottom which i presume where there to protect from the stockcars as it was a dual purpose venue. Arbroath dominated the first half hitting the woodwork twice whilst ironically the blue brazil had to resort to route one in an effort to get out of their half, HT 0-0. Second half i unwisely chose to stand on the open terrace opposite despite it offering no shelter from the unforgiving wind. One benifit however was to notice Arbroath had brought about a third of the crowd and where using the ''old''stand adjacent to the ''new'' stand. Cowdenbeth were much improved in the second half and gave as good as they got for long periods and should have been awarded a penalty midway through the second half after a defender did his best to grapple the striker who was through on goal. This proved the turning point as shortly after a mistake in the middle of Cowdenbeths half led to a scappy goal as Arbroaths no7 Skelly fired a greasy ball at the keeper and it squirmed in. The last ten minutes was all Arbroth with ''beth picking up a number of bookings before Doris sealed the win hooking home a late cross a few minutes from the end. It was unusual at this time of year to see daylight at the end of the match(due to the early kick off) but by the time i was circum-navigating Glasgow at 4.30 it was pitch black.
