Colin picked me up at 12.45pm and drove to Llantwit Major bus station for the coach pick up at 1.10pm. We arrived at Port Vale at approximately 6.40pm having stopped at Hilton Park Services on the M6 (4.50 till 5.30pm). On alighting the coach we went to the portakabin to buy our tickets for the game and we were allowed to imbibe with a few beers in the Tommy Cheadle bar adjacent to the away end next to our parked coaches. Tommy Cheadle was a tough tackling centre back who made 333 appearances scoring 14 goals for Port Vale during the period 1947 to 59. Along with the other 311 City supporters, we enjoyed the match having seen our team win with goals from Joe Ralls (26) and Federico Macheda (59 & 79) for Cardiff, with Port Vale eqalising through a wonder strike by Michael O''Connor (33) and a late consolation goal by Michael Brown (93) to ensure we could not completely relax to the final whistle. We departed the ground at 10.00pm and as we were leaving Burslem, some choice individuals decided our coach was a target for their disappointment and hurled an object against a window thus breaking the outer skin of the double glass, this was reported to the police and we stopped briefly on the slip road to the M6 motorway to clear away the remaining shattered glass which could have been a potential hazard to other road users. We eventually arrived in Llantwit Major at approximately 2.00am.
