The promotion prospects of Alvis Sporting received a severe blow as a result of the 4-2 defeat at Redditch Borough on May Day Bank Holiday Monday, in their last league game of the season. Having been in the top two of the Midland League Division Two for almost the whole of the season, the fate of Alvis Sporting is now in the hands of Paget Rangers who, if they beat Coton Green later in the week in Birmingham, will be promoted.
Within 15 minutes of the start, Redditch had scored twice with first Jamie Hatfield latching onto a free kick from Luke English to score with a header, and Hatfield again headed home following a corner from the right.
Whilst Steve Minard shot narrowly wide for Alvis, it was the Worcestershire side who added a third goal soon after the break when Hatfield seized onto a long ball to register his hat trick. In the closing stages, Alvis reduced the deficit with Minard netting from close range following a cross from Declan Price. Liam Fullerton restored the three goal advantage 3 minutes from time, whilst Alvis scored a late consolation goal with Price scoring from 2 yards, following a cross from Shane Brassington.
